I never installed a cam button on a Crane hydraulic roller
camshaft. Was it necessary?

There is a thread or two on just using a rounded top bolt and polish the head.

Has anyone tried to epoxy a hardened washer to the timing cover? Any thoughts??

I just used one of the composite (plastic type) cam buttons from a BB Chevy. Costs about $6 Hacked off the big wonky section and sanded it down to fit. Works like a charm and won't cause any wear to the timing cover.
