I recently came by this on the internet:

David Howes raced this phenomenal AMC Javelin in the 1972 and '73 British Saloon Car Championship. Unlike the American Trans-Am Javelins, which were limited to 5,000cc, the engine in Howes Javelin was out to 6,390cc. It was also fitted with much wider wheels, I'd say 15" wide in the rear. The BTCC Group 2 regulations were far more relaxed than those of the Trans-Am.

The Javelin suffered a serious of reliability issues in the '72 season, but managed to notch up several top 10 results. Then in '73, was much closer to the pace, and finished an excellent 2nd in the Saloon car support race at the '73 Silverstone Grand Prix event, behind Frank Gardners SCA Camaro, according to Frank de Jongs excellent website: http://www.touringcarracing.net/

Then the Javelin appears to have vanished.

Does anyone know anything about this car? Was it built in the UK, or was it a Trans-Am car fitted with the larger engine? Does it still exist?

Wow what a hot Javelin.

Would be interesting what year it is... 70s Hood, but 68-69 Bumper and Fenderextensions.

I'd see if anyone had knowledge about the dealer that sponsored it at some point and if any possible contacts from that search remember the car.

Otherwise see if the driver, or his relatives and friends are alive and can answer you're question.

It has gone through some changes, it probably is a 69 with a 70 hood, mostlikely bought from a US race team moving on to 70 cars... early racing it had an angled fron spoiler with open ram air ducts. Then straight up front spoiler and closed ram air ducts.  Donno if rear bumper was not a requirement through out its history but oddly enough it does not have one.

Another oddity is the front windscreen has no trim, but the back does.

As for early racing setup... the car was fitted with Minilite wheels and white body. Later the wheels were changed to 6 spoke wheels of unknown make, and the AMC colors and moniker.

I'm guessing it's the fuel cell hanging low.

Expand the photos and the windrow trim becomes visible. Photo angles and light ands can sometimes obscure detail until you blow up the photo.

The car, from the pictures depicted here, looks like a 68/69 with 70 hood. As has been mentioned.
Further details point to this, 68/69 taillight cove and tailights, 68/69(closer examination might show which year by examining the flute the mirror head attaches to, 68/69 front fender side lamps, and aforementioned details.
