I have a 68 AMX with power disc brakes. I just bought a brake booster at Auto Zone. Cardone part # 54-73105. This number is supposed to be for this car. It physically looks the same size, but it appears to be stamped different. Where the master cylinder bolts on is actually recessed. The one on my car now actually has this area protruding, as does pictures I have googled online. Does anyone know if this is going to work before I actually install it?

Here's a picture of a extra one I have on the shelf. Don't know if this will help you.

The one that is pictured is correct design for Power disc Brake for sure....be aware there is two versions of this, that don't distract from function but.....will show which era the booster is.  Up to 1974 the booster remined basically the same, from what I can document, around late 1973 the studs on the master cylinder mounting and bracket to booster mounting, changed from 3/8" - 24 National Fine to 3/8" - 16 National Coarse, not sure why other then to speed the installation a few seconds at each installation...this was done across the Bendix Booster Line, as I have found on some Ford cars that used same basic booster....You can clearly see this Cardone Unit has coarse threads....Booster Dewey has also verified my findings, when I had the booster overhauled by him on the Prototype Matador Coupe that was completed in June of 1973.

Would this booster replace the unit installed in a '72 Javelin with front disks and rear drums? ....My booster has a crack in it and I'm having quite a time trying to find a replacement unit.
