Hows it going guys. I've got a T35 that I've pulled apart and found that the planetary gear drum (rear drum) is worn. I've yet to be able to find a spare so I'm wondering if I can put this in a lathe and take it down a bit to clean it up. Does anyone have any advice? Or does anyone have a spare? Thanks for the help, Campbell |

The band that grips the rear drum is only used in reverse and manual low.

It's not that bad. A new band should grip it just fine, and will "wear in" to the slight grooves quickly. Won't hurt to put it in a lathe and clean it up a bit, but don't turn it down much, you could weaken the housing. I think all I'd do is get a strip of emery cloth that will wrap at least half way around it and polish it up. Hard parts like this are hard to find for the old trannys. You might find a better used one, but yours isn't too bad to put back in and use. Looks like the band was pretty far gone before it was replaced.

Northwest Transmission Parts in Hillsboro, Ohio is still in business, I think...
It's an odd little operation, but they have a lot of hard to find parts too. |

Thanks for the reply guys. I actually found a place in the UK that sells thicker bands for exactly this kind of problem. In the UK I guess alot of the volvos and rover P5s had the borg warner t35. I contacted Peter at Graham White Autos Ltd. and this was his response:
"The standard diameter of the drum is 4.860 inches. The standard lining thickness is 0.045", but we can reline a band with 0.070" material as a special order. So, if your drum will clean up at -0.025" on the radius, then we can supply you with a band to suit. A band costs £47.00. If you send us your old band in exchange within 12 months of the invoice date, we refund £11.00." Peter has been a great help and quick with his email responses. His info is good to know if any of you guys tool around with these old 35s! I have ordered his band and am cleaning up the drum on the lathe. AMCGLASS If something goes wrong with my repair process I will be very interested in buying a full trans from you. I am in Indianapolis, IN and see that your in Ohio. I'll send you a message so we're not flooding the thread, thanks for help! Edited by Campbell45 - Jun/28/2016 at 8:45pm |

I'm still in the process of the rebuild and have come to find there is some play between the front clutch and the rear clutch.
Does anyone have any input on this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2kl_PNBK30&feature=youtu.be Edited by Campbell45 - Sep/15/2016 at 7:33pm |
