I am have a 71 Javelin with A/C 304. Blower motor has stopped working. I have checked the motor with a 12 straight jump to it and the motor runs well. This car does have a 4 pronged blower relay on the firewall. Can anyone tell me how to test this relay? I can not find it mentioned in the TSM.

Is that a relay, or a resistor? I can't recall how long they used a resistor. It's common for them to have troubles with corrosion due to the heat and moisture in that area.
If it's stopped completely, are you sure it's not a fuse or the switch? |

No I am not sure if it is the switch. Since the relay is easier to get to I thought I would start there. And I am not sure if it is a relay or resister. How can I find Out? And is there a way to test it? Also is there a test that I can run on the switch with out taking it out?

Is it mounted on the heater box?

That's a resistor. There is no relay.
High speed goes direct from the switch to the motor.
Low and medium go through the resistor.
So if you have no motor, then it's the fuse or switch.
If you have high but no low or medium, then it's the resistor.
You can have a rusted connection at the resistor causing issues, but if the connections are clean, it's not that.
Check for power at the point where the wire from the motor goes to the resistor - if there's no power there when the switch is on HIGH speed, then it's not the resistor.
Check for power at the orange and/or light green wire at the resistor when the switch is in the low or medium position. If there's no power there, then it's a fuse or the switch.

Thanks for the advice. It was a bad connection at the fuse panel. But this car does have a relay attached to the hood side of the firewall just above the blower motor. A dark blue wire come from this relay to the motor. The relay has one 3 prong connector(which includes the dark blue wire and a 1 prong connector that is a white wire coming from the wiring harness.

Like this?
That's not a relay. Look in the TSM wiring diagram for Javelin - that's a resistor. Javelin - model/series 70 as AMC called it, didn't use a relay.

There's a big obvious hint that it couldn't be a relay.
Air holes in the cover. |

Billd, thanks for posting the picture but the relay in that picture is not what mine looks like. I have found that some Javelins did have a blower relay, which mine does. If you want to see a picture of the relay you can find it by going to American Parts Depot website and look under "Javelin/Heating and AC" for part #1307501. http://www.americanpartsdepot.com. Can anyone tell me the reason for this relay? And why the motor can not be wired directly to the harness wire?

Because the switch and wiring aren't designed to handle the amperage.
