Fellas -
Getting close to dropping the 401 into the 71 Javelin. Just realized today that my new Lakewood bellhousing doesn't have dowel pins like a stock bell would. I need these to help correctly locate the bell.
I measured the hole in the block as .56". Forgot the measure the hole in the bell but it looks to be the same size.
Does anyone make these? Unlike the solid dowels that most use, these are hollow b/c the bolt passes through them. I tried a search and didn't find a source.
Thanks,

The dowel pins should be in the block. Sounds like they are missing - do you have another block you can pull them from?

If you can't find any dowels I can make some.

Dowel pins are not in my block. Looks like my only options are to find some used ones or get some made.
Thanks

That would be great, but I'd be looking for a pretty quick turn on these. Hope to drop in the engine and trans this weekend...
Thanks

Check - American Parts Depot (APD) - under engine - part No. 910-2002. I think this is where I got mine. If these are not correct - let me know and I will try to locate the paper work on the source I used. I know they are available. - Hope this helps - JJ

Found the ones at APD - http://www.americanpartsdepot.com/engmisc.htm#dowels
Also found some at Performance American Style -
Didn't find them with my earlier searches because I was searching for bellhousing dowel pins, not block dowel pins.
Thanks for all the input!

Hey, found this thread and although i realize it's 6 years old- it has still greatly helped me with my issues today. I am new with working on vehicles and the AMC is rare. I am getting the TH400 rebuilt on my '78 CJ7 running an AMC304. Biggest concern was locating these dowels now i know they most likely stayed in the block but if not i have a resource to purchase them if needed. Thank you all for your great advice! i'm sure i will be back here for more of your knowledge.

If I am not mistaken the big block chevy head dowels are the same OD size and available at most local auto parts places. You may have to open them slightly with a drill to get the bolt to go through but if you are in a hurry they will work.

Dowel pins of all sizes are available at retailers like Fastenal, McMaster Carr (for non-Canadians). I'm sure there are many others that I'm not aware of, being from the GWN.
