AMEN!   and when I worked at a chevrolet dealer ship, I got to be friends with the older mechanic, and he taught me alot.............and the man who ran the transmission shop was also very very good and I learned alot from him.

I am not a mechanic, or in the trade, but some of my best tools are the older ones and the tools from my dad and Grandpa.  they do not make them like that anymore.  Vice Gripes are a prime example.

Good luck with the career, one can always use a good mechanic...

You can still buy them but they just arent the same.  I have an old pair from my grandfather that are just built so much more ruggedly, and grip anything.

When you talk about the brand Vise-Grip, I've got some very old ones, two about 40 years old, and my newest about 5 years old, can't say there's a difference in quality.
But there are a lot of Vise-Grip wannabees out there, i've tried a few, very few measure up to the real thing.

The newer Vice Grips (the actual brand) are made in China now (tyrodtom, your newest ones are probably right before they did that) and I've heard complaints about them as well.

Matt

They're still more reliable than the "hood release" handles on late model AMCs. That's what vice grips are for, right? LOL

Def agree! The real label on the side saying Vise grip makes for a totally better tool. The Knock offs always seen to have way too much side play, and a crappy release lever. SH
