Started the Pacer yesterday. The dreaded starter not disengaging and chewing teeth on the flexplate noise. POOP. I caught it pretty fast. The starter on the car looks almost new (rebuilt) . Took starter off and a few teeth on the flex plate that I can tell have a little notch ground away a little. Something was rattling inside the starter. Pulled the cover here is what I found.
Pivot pin came out causing the starter teeth not to disengage all the way. I put the pin back in and with a ball peen hammer rolled the edges over. It's not coming back out I hope. So far no problem. I dodged a bullet for sure. On another note when was the last time you used a Ball Peen hammer for what it was made for? I bet there is some here that don't know what the rounded end on some hammers is for |

There is no definition for peen other than it is the wedge-like or round end at the opposite end of the face of the hammer. Huh!
