Axle length differences AMC model 20 rear
Would the axles from a 1984 CJ fit the AMC Model 20 in a 1969 Javelin?
What are the typical or correct lengths for the axle shafts
24" and 26 1/2" ? 30" and measurements to backing plate?
Any help?

Well so far my research the CJ had a 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern
where the Javelin is a 5 X 4.5 bolt pattern for wheel studs

Wheel to Wheel CJ wide track     54.5"

Rear axle widths. Measured from wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface. Assume "approximate" widths, +/- 1/2". AMC’s use a 43 1/2” spring perch to perch spacing for all leaf spring models from 1964-78.
Width   Year        Model

56.50   1958-83    American, Hornet, Gremlin, Concord, Spirit

56.50   1968-70    Javelin, AMX

56.50   1964-66    Classic, Ambassador, Marlin, Rebel

60.00   1967-78    Rebel, Marlin, Ambassador, Matador, Pacer

60.00   1971-74    Javelin, AMX

Don't seem to be very interchageable

CJ is heavily offset to one side if my memory is correct.

68/69 Javelin is about 1/2" wider than the 70 Javelin and the Gremlin/Hornet.

NOPE. Narrow track Jeep was 51.5" wide, widetrack (82-86) was 54.5" wide. CJ axles are too narrow. Don't forget that the Jeep lug pattern was 5 on 5.5" and the centering flange much larger, so even if you drilled for the smaller pattern, I'm pretty sure you'd have to machine the centering flange completely off.

I am building a 54.5 wide track cj model 20 for my 69 javelin.     2" narrowed rear end for more tire clearance. Using the javelin 20 outer flanges on the cj axles.  Keeping it all amc. and replacing the weak model 15 in my car
