For Hornet owners interest Gary Hunt who has been making some AMI decals (original paint decals, tin body plates etc) for our cars is looking at doing the 70/71 Hornet rear lenses in the not too distant future (for Australian and US market) as well as the AMI guard badges inserts which will be great for our Aussie built Ramblers.

To show some interest and ask any questions don't hesitate to contact him through his website;

www.toyotaheritage.com

or phone him on 0416645334

He has been making rare Toyota lenses and parts (with great success and quality) and is focusing on the many unique AMI parts. His interest in AMC's and the Hornet lenses stems from this. Feel free to contact him and register your interest in the lenses and AMI badges and ask about any other parts he may have, or have in the pipeline for our cars. Great to see this sort of stuff happening now

Gary has also indicated he may be able to reproduce other near unobtainable (in good condition anyhow) parts for Hornets down the track, subject to interest, cost etc of course, are;

Australian AMI RHD gauge fascia's that are always broken.

Fuel tank filler plastic cover. These are always deeply scratched and damaged and broken. I think only 70/71 had these?.

Australian Hornet Dome light. Ours Hornets received US Javelin spec dome lights which are very hard to find NOS and sought after by Javelin owners in US as well.

Chrome pistol grip button. These are always losing their chrome. These wernt on US hornets. Does anybody know what they were off in the US?

A long way down the track he may be able to do the ultra rare to find dashpads. These are ALWAYS buckled and broken. These also suit US Hornets and Gremlins so he a good market there. He is in the process of doing a Toyota one that is similar.

Feel free to contact him and put items into the pipeline. Some, or maybe even none of these, may happen BUT it is a good feeling to know that there is a possibility of them being reproduced after so many years of being out of production

Of course it ALL depends on YOU. AMI Hornet, and all other Australian and US based AMC owners showing some interest in what Gary is capable of.

I don't think too many chances will come by for some of these items to be remade again down the track. Lets make the most of it

Happy AMC'ing

Hi All,

Just updating the total production estimate found in the top of this thread to 1769,  as H09-864 a June 1971 , 1970 Hornet was added yesterday! This increase the 1970 Total from 831 to 864. So 1970 production ran to June 71 and 1971 production started in July 1971. Sill looking for a 9-70 Hornet!
There is scope for this figure still to increase if we find 9-72 1972s(US model 1971) or any 1974s(US model 1972s)

YEAR     COMPLIANCE PLATE      AMI BUILD DATES      AMC TAG      BUILT

1970      H09-001 to H09-864       July 70 to Jun 71        GK                    864

1973      H39-001 to H39-237       Apr 73 to Dec 73         AK                    237
1974      H59-001 to H59-150       Mar 75 to Jun 75         A4                    150
Total                                                                                                        1769

Retro Auto magazine that is one of the better magazines around these days (this one on-line only) has an article on the Hornet's featuring one of the nicest original Australian assembled Hornets left in Australia. This car will be at next years show again for everyone to have a look at.

https://www.shannons.com.au/club/news/retroautos-october-2017-exclusive-ford-ltd-prototypes-plus-67-valiant-v870horne/

and click "View Magazine"

David will be doing a few AMC's over the course of the next 18months

If possible leave some comments about the article and Hornets and AMC's in general. The more people that do the more they will see the interest in AMC's. It will only take you a minute to do and Shannons use comments to gauge what they will keep doing or avoid. lets show them AMC's really are an important part of the Australian landscape Smile
