I'm restoring a 68 AMX and I am having issues with the wiring for the exterior and interior lights. One pull of the headlight switch turns on the outside marker lights. Turning on the headlights with a further pull switches on the headlights but turns off the front marker lights recessed in the bumper. Is this correct? All other marker lights stay on.

Also the AMX seems to have only one interior light under the dash on the driver's side. My 69 Javelin had dome lights in the two sail panels in the back as well as the light under the dash. Am I missing some interior lights?

68-70 AMXs do not have a dome light or lights in the sale panels. You should have two under dash lights.

When you pull the headlight switch one notch, your parking lights, tail lights, side marker, and license plate lights should come on.
When you pull it a second notch, the headlights should come on and the parking lights go off (in '68, that changed in '69).

I believe the front park lights in the bumper go out when the headlights are turned on. All other lights stay on.

Big Bad is correct, at least on the '68's and maybe on the '69's.

Thanks ramblinrev. You are probably right, just the switch. All of the wiring to the lights checks OK. The dimmer feature does not work that well either (dash lights flicker when switch is turned). More business for Kennedy American.

Strange that the park lights would go out at night. But if that is the case, I defer to the experts on this forum.

The dimmer switch problem is common. The rheostat corrodes over time and the contact becomes intermittent. I used some steel wool on mine to clean it up.

Park lights off with headlights on was common back then. My 67 Plymouth was the same.

Maybe it is so that one can see the turning signals at night without the second filament in the bulb being on for the park light.

You may be correct on '68s, although I believe the same DOT law that mandated side marker lights in the '68 model year, also required parking lights to remain on with headlights.

I know that in '69's the parking lights and headlights are on together.
