What if any are the differences in front coil springs for the
1968 1969 1970 AMX or Javelin ?
Just V8 or 6 cylinder and possible HD models?
How many coils?
Height measurement ?
Thickness of the coil ?
Any specifications?
Best way to identify..
Anybody know any original AMC part numbers for these front coil springs?

Thanks

Here's my take on it.   The six cylinder coils are smaller in diameter.   The standard Javelin V8 coils are larger than the six cylinder coils.  The heavy duty (handling package) coils for the V8 Javelin are the same as the standard AMX coils.  The handling package coils for the AMX are the largest diameter of any.

Correct me if I am wrong.   Joe

Step back a second......68/69 are a completely different spring then 70, they DO NOT INTERCHANGE.  I just went through this on another AMC...not only is the wire diameter different, but the number of coils will vary too.  Not sure what you are working on but in 1970 there were 7 different spring P/N's for V-8, depended on engine, go pac, with or with out a/c.....

1970 springs are different that 68/69 models. 1968  and 1969 AMX, Javelin and American springs  are 9.84"  tall x 4.05 diameter. 1970 springs  measure 9.75" tall x 5.05 diameter. Some springs had a part number or a partial part number stamped on them or a paper tag.

And if you need 68/9 springs or 70 springs, I have a rack of excellent used springs removed from Calif AMX & Javelins 30+ years ago...

I was lucky - when my car was new the dealer undercoated it - and I mean they were generous.
I carefully removed the "tar" and found very nice original part number tags on my 1970's front springs to verify it had the upgraded springs (heavy duty or whatever)
And you get into some cars and you'll have left and right spring part numbers, too....... ugh.

The 68-69 were trunion suspension. 1970 saw the intruduction (as far as AMC) of the more standard SLA suspension with upper and lower ball joints. Shock mounting changed, springs changed, among other things.

Just to clarify:  I was speaking about 69 Javelin and AMX springs only.  Joe
