Hi all, just thought I'd ask.

My brother's Pacer, as far as we know, never, ever had power brakes, nor did it have a radio or clock.  However, it did/does have air conditioning, which is now useless considering R-12 is outlawed...

So...  The fact is the brakes are terrible.  Now, I have plenty of experience with non-powered brakes and in all fairness his are not that bad overall.  But it would be nice to have power.

That being said, I know that these Pacers used a lot of the same parts other AMC/Jeeps used. (At least when referring to the drivetrain...)

Is there a generic (i.e. not Pacer specific) brake booster used on other cars that will bolt up to the existing master cylinder?  Also, since the car never had them, are the existing brakes properly equipped to handle a booster? Or will other mods have to be made?  It has disks in front, and drums in the rear.

Many thanks in advance,
Peter

[Side note...these a/c systems can be successfully converted to R-134a.

Really.]

Check your local auto parts store. Kit will usually consist of green O-rings, some of the correct compressor oil, and the correct fittings for R-134. Since one must be certified to evacuate and recharge the system, I suggest you let an ASE-certified technician evac and recharge. Most kits don't include a new receiver-dryer, but I highly recommend changing it...AFTER evacuating the R-12 BUT BEFORE installing the R-134. Right after flushing the a/c system. Cross-contamination can get ugly.
