Hi,
Rebuilding my Rambler 390 for the SC (Original Engine)
What Valves are you guys using for a Performance Build?
The Valves I found are not a quality valve as far as the Chrome on the shaft is concerned...

The Valves are: SBI E-Loy
My Head Guy, Ruben at Valley Head Service Northridge CA says the shafts have minimal Chrome
He's been doing Heads for Larry at Valley Head Service for 35 years.
YES, they will last 40 to 50 K miles but is this the only head available for the 390 AMC or does Manley or Cleveite make Valves for this application

Is there an aftermarket Company building a High Quality Valve?

Thank

If you need guides, and you probably do, switching to 11/32 stem is easy while you are at it.  Then I use either a 2.055 or 2.08 +.100 long small block chevy intake valve.   Ford exhaust, either 1.71 (351 Cleveland) or 1.76 (429-460) diameter.   For 3/8 stem, 2.08/1.74 Chrysler is an option.  Easy to find a premium offering for the ford/chevy combination, such as Manley Severe Duty.

If you use 11/32 valves I suggest sticking with stock length SBC approximately 4.9" long 2.02/2.055 or 1.6/1.625

When you get into .100 longer valves you also get into different geometry, possibly the need for longer studs etc. Not worth the hassle when you can stick to 4.9" long GM which keeps everything closer to factory

+1 on SBC in the stock length- it's very close to the AMC length.

I have not measured the length of a stock valve in a while but the SBI book shows right around 4.900 on both intake and exhaust for AMC factory replacement valves just like stock length SBC valves

Thank you all for your help.
I am meeting with my "Head Guru" Tuesday or Wednesday, 04 Dec or 05 dec to discuss the options.
I have print-outs of the Help you all have provided here on the forum.
I will post the outcome.
Again, thank you all for shedding light.
One thin to note:
I did call Manley Valve in N.J
They said they can build the Valves, just provide an Intake and a Exhaust valve.

Again, thank for all the Data, Info and help!

I picked parts and assembled one pair of AMC Heads.
Was somewhat amazed at how many little variables change and/or can be tweaked.
Once again, kinda gotta settle on some final parts first that will be used,
like what Cam which dictates Actual Springs, and Actual Valves.
Then Valve Job has to be done, Spring Pockets (for spring size) and Guide Boss (for seals) machined.
Valve Length, Valve Lock Groove Location on stem, Spring pocket depth and Locator Cups and/or Shims,
Spring Retainers can be had with various "heights", Valve Locks can be had with various "heights".
A lot can be "juggled" to get desired Installed Spring Height, and Valve Tip protrusion above Retainer.
On the limited number of stock AMC Heads I handled / "did", Stem Tips were "too close" to the Retainer Top imho...
? Do any of you all intentionally increase Valve Stem Tip protrusion above the Spring Retainer ?
