I'm going to start a post on the rebuild and modification to a 360 street engine in a 69 Javelin. The car was bought in Ohio and then attempted to be driven to Mcallen Tx. It did not make it. The engine has been at the machine shop for nearly a year, the mechanic fell on hard times and just left the engine there. .030 on the bore and .010 on the mains and rods. So machine shop gave me a call and asked if I could give the owner a call. We met up at the machine shop and also picked up the block  and internals. So i went through everything and this is what I found. Crank is a 70/71.  flywheel is for a 72 and newer 258, no weights plus its been drilled in all the wrong places making it extremely weak, Heads are 291Smile but finding forged pistons is a pain may have to go with the 399 I have and also with a spare 72 crank I just got recently machined do to using a 72 flywheel for his t10.  I'll start posting some pics and videos soon and some details about the easy modification so you never have a oiling concern to the lower end. not the bypass. Oh! anyone need a fresh 360 crank for a 70/71. machined .010/.010 never used after machining. also has the bearings Federal/Ms

A 258 flywheel?

Whatever rotating assembly you put together, you better make sure it's balanced. Mixing flywheels, cranks, rods, and pistons can get you out of balance and it's never fun to find that out later when you have a running engine that shakes. Just be careful about it.

You must have a 360 or 304 flywheel for a 360.
Without balancing the engine will shake violently
with a 258 wheel or flex plate.

WARBED knows what he's doing, why he was called in to help with this! He was just listing what he found when getting the engine. I bet the mis-matched flywheel/crank is what caused the issues in the first place.

Wow - you have a mess to sort out. It's not like the engine was virgin and all the right parts are there. You must go through every single little item, rod, nut, bolt, piston, whatever, and make sure it matches the engine and goal. Someone left you a mess to sort out.
But it sounds like you have already ID'd the basic problems.
Good luck - 360s are tough engines and once you have finished getting the wrong parts out of there and putting in the right stuff, it'll be fine, I'm sure.

But seriously -you found a 258 flywheel in the mix?
I wonder if they bought it assuming......... or had no clue? Wow.

I purchased a very rusty 79 Spirit AMX 304 with the SR4 transmission for parts once.

The engine was junk, I needed the bellhousing and a few other items out of the car.

I sold the carcass for $200, I didn't pay much more than that for it.

The manual transmission was factory. as was the flywheel.

The flywheel is the same as a six cylinder flywheel but had a bunch of balancing holes drilled in it to work with the 304. It had a very small diameter clutch and pressure plate too., but appears to have been drilled for a larger pressure plate as well. Remember guys this is factory stuff. So even AMC did these things to get the cars out the door of the factory. I think WARBED can handle this.....
