So far the only difference seems to be that I can find parts for the iron case models. O_o I have yet to find an early aluminum BW unit anywhere. The only one I have is the 4WD T-5 manual box now in my Eagle.

Cast iron is stronger, but heavy. Performance wise, iron is best but none of the BW trannies perform as well as the Th400 jeep or the TF variance AMC used.

I only would keep a BW I'd left stock.

I have a 71 BW aluminum version, that some day somebody will need parts from. Had been professionally rebuilt about 35k miles ago, but has been sitting garaged for almost 15 years. Had drove it around to move before strip down of car.

I hear internals are the big items for replacement. Just felt safer keeping it all together since it is best stored that way.

The aluminium ones were used behind sixes and small V8s, with cast iron behind the bigger engines assuming we are talking about Borg Warner transmissions only. You can't get a deep pan for the cast iron BW unless you want to make your own.
