They could do a semi-hemi like the GM 396-454 heads without a lot of valvetrain tricks.

I thought about doing a belt drive off the back of the motor with a spacer between motor and trans like the Jeep TH400 adapter.

Well, it looks like Edelbrock has developed a head. They are looking for a test vehicle. http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/misc/test-vehicles/

Being kinda picky for the mileage and year! LOL

Last Wrangler I found with the 4.0L in that combo had 129,000 on it!
It was an unlimited and a 6 speed, I kinda wish I had checked it out better.

Be nice to see them hit the head market though!

I would assume that's because of CARB certification. 2006 is the last year the 4.0L was available, so I assume if they test it on an '06, it will meet CARB for all years prior. The under 50k miles request may also be a CARB requirement, but just pulling that out of air.

I think Hesco was selling a Patriot head. They had to mark it up to make some money. I wonder if Edelbrock got the Patriot molds now, and maybe modified them some? I bet the under 50K requirement is just because they want a reasonably good, healthy engine.

I know that edelbrock has their own foundry and if Patriot coughed up the molds, or even if Edelbrock starts from scratch they will most likely be Better heads at Lower pricing.

They get the whole quantity>price thing.
It would be very, very tempting.
If based on the 2000 up head ports it should be one sweet package.

Might just have to build the 4.5L  Big smile.

You are correct! We need the 06 for the CARB EO number. Vehicle mileage doesn't matter to the CARB.

This head is an Edelbrock design! We are not using anything from Patriot or Hesco! And under 50K miles is indeed to test the head on a "healthy engine".

Dennis, can you divulge any info on when it will be available and any performance gains or is it too early?

Hesco apparently already has an aluminum cylinder head, at least they are advertising one with the caveat of non-available:
Also with a CARB# of #D-592 and a retail price of very close to $2000.00.  With claims to fit 258 & 4.0 with the explanation that 258's have already been converted for the 4.0 Head.  The question really is whether there is a market for it or not.
If I am not mistaken there used to be a 258 aluminum head that was marketed by Clifford some time about 15 years ago when the 258 was some what popular in off road racing that really did not sell that well.  Hesco  also the still Markets the MPFI conversion kit for the 258 for about $2800.00 which I understood Chrysler no longer markets and Summit no longer carries, the last time I checked anyway.  Which also has a CARB number which did 12 years ago when I bought one.  That is a turn key kit and runs well when you finally figure out what it needs to run.
But if you just take those two and add the prices up you get about $5000.00 worth of performance options on a long stroke engine.  Which frankly is a lot of scoots to tie up in an engine that is under 300 cu in.
The thought of building a performance in line I-6 with a carburetor I still play around with and frankly have a 232 sitting on an engine stand with that in mind.  And a Borla Header for a 1981+ 258 is about $500.00 for cat. # 17053.  Granted, if you have to ask how much you probably can not afford it, but the question still is?  Is there a market for one?
