I'm not looking to do anything crazy with my 232, I just want to add a couple things to it.
I have saved: Hedman Street Headers 99610 from Summit Racing Equipment
     COMP Cams SK68-200-4 from Jegs
Offenhauser 360 Degree Single-Quad Dual-Port Intake Manifold from Summit
     And a cold air intake

Bare with me I don't know much about this, this is just what I looked for and these came up. The intake manifold says it can't be used on an automatic transmission, why is that? Other than that everything else says it'll fit or I was told they'll fit if they're in the same time period and I don't know why they wouldn't be if the 232 is the same between 71 and 72. (The header says it fits a 72 232)

Any help is welcome, like I said I don't know much about this and just want a little bit more performance. Smile

The header for a 72 and up 232 is for the AMC six that has the starter on the right side.
You 71 has the starter on the left,  doesn't it ?
That's a problem, the header pipes and starter interfere with each other on the 71 and earlier AMC 6s.
Headers are made for the 71 and earlier 6s,  but they're hard to find.

The problem with the intake and automatic transmissions is how the automatic has some linkage hooked up to the throttle linkage,  some of the aftermarket intakes have no provision for that,  but several people have solved that problem with different approaches.

Look at your stock throttle linkage and you'll see the problem.

1. tyrodtom already stated the header issue. You can modify the rear pipe to work around the starter if you're handy with a wire welder, but forget the warranty.

2. The auto trans issue is most easily solved with a Lokar cable kit for a Chrysler transmission.... but you should have a Borg-Warner. The 71 model should have an electric kick-down switch on the throttle linkage. You just need to make a bracket to hold the switch on the manifold. You can use a self-drilling screw or drill and tap the manifold for a screw. If you drill through the manifold just use a sealer on the treads -- RTV will be fine.

3. The cam (Comp 252H) is a good choice for a street engine. I think you'll like the DP manifold as well. A 390-450 cfm carb will be great for your combo. I'd lean more toward a 450 myself, having run a 390 on a 258. The 390 is big enough, but it always felt like I could have used a bit more carb. Of course that was on a 258. Might not feel that way with 26 fewer inches...
