Yes, the path taken to adapt to the Tq converter would depend on the stage of you engine. AMC engines are externally balanced with the flex plate.

I have a complete 1973 Jeep 360 with the original BOP TH400 from the factory. It has the provision for a speedometer cable in the main case. I was going to install it in my 68 AMX with a Gear Vendors overdrive. Plans changed when I found another 390 standard bore block. GV is a viable alternative to installing an AOD. |

^ This is the way I did it over 30 years ago, had an early 390 in an AMX and pulled a 727 out of a amc station wagon. Welded an extra piece into the center of the flex plate and Art Carr in Cali had a converter on the shelf for this swap. I still have the tranny, flexplate and converter in the garage, probably end up using it on a project soon.

Performance American Style appears to have a bolt on crank adaptor to go front the early crank to the GM transmissions as well as the rest of the kit.

I tried calling the company when I was researching my 200-4R swap. Left a message but never got a call back. Not sure if it's a going concern anymore or a ghost-site. I guess for someone that hasn't got the crank out of their engine, the adapter contraption is one option.

Thanks for all the replies, photos of install were very helpful.
I plan to go ahead with the 200 R4. Will research a good supplier of a performance box and convertor. |
