I have several abs grilles that are in need of repair. I would like to buy a plastic welder to aid in this project and was hoping someone could recommend one ?

I won a Urethane supply company airless welder at a I-Car class years ago. I used it for years on many different plastics, it's got different rods that will weld any plastics i'm come across so far. I was going to reccomend it till I checked and noticed they cost $400.
If that's too expensive you can get a plastic repair foot for a Weller soldering iron, that I used years ago, if their still out there. That with some ABS rods , or unirods from Urethane supply would work.

I'm lucky to have won the welder I have as a prize, because I never would have paid $400 for one. But it would have paid for itself, i've used it that much.

the tool vendors have one in the 350 to 400 range, do you have a pic of yours? Im not scared to make the investment...i can write it off, the only upside to wrenching professionally. im just not sure what to go with

Look at the Urethane Suppy Company website. I've used mine on windshield washer bottles, radiator top tanks, ATV fenders, welding helmets, bumpers, and so on. The more I use it the better I get.

I'll definitely look into that myself. I just need a setup that is easy to use and can get into tighter spaces. Do you have any trouble identifying the different types of plastic ?

There are several kind of test you can do, most are destructive, like burn tests to see how the materail burns, flame color, smoke clear or black, float test, etc. Some manufactors put a code on the back, but not all.
Urethane supply has a booklet that explains all the different tests, and the codes. I'd get that book, because there is no universal method, or materail that will work on every plastic out there.
