All 199s were 1V, but as mentioned, the 232/258 2V intake bolts right on. The Weber carbs were never used from the factory, but they are very popular upgrades in the Jeep community. Sorry to bring back an older thread but I have a question now after reading through all this... I'm new to AMC so forgive my lack of knowledge here... but my 68 American which I believe has a 199/6cyc.. has a weber carb, was already installed when I purchased the car, not sure what model I never looked just thought it was stock equipment.. mine appears to be on the stock intake, compaired to the pic posted by Pdok my carb is turned 1/4 turn counterclockwise, with the linkage faceing the firewall... It's been so long since I worked on the old 1bbl Holley's from the early years on a regular basis, I'd be better off "refreshing" myself first.
I recall that I liked them, had few issues with them back then.  LOL - I work on so many things of different nature, it's getting harder to keep track of it all.
