I have a few at work biggest is a hpr260 hypertherm on our plate machine, it will do 2 1/2 inches but I will only cut to 1 1/2 safely or risk hurting it. ANy thicker we just use a oxy fuel torch.

I would hunt for a used quality machine before buying a cheapo....You also have to make sure your compressor is sending clean dry air to the unit or it will be problematic.

If you get a model #, serial # and all from another unit and order it like off of ebay through a welding store with free shipping that is close to you then you can get the upgrade discount if you claim that one as your old one. That would put you under 1000 bucks. Just an FYI

I have done pretty well at yard/garage sales myself so i know the feeling. I really don't know what i am going to do, I might got with the 3 in 1's. They seem pretty good if i can sift thru all the different brands and find a clear winner, and i am also on craigs list looking for a used plasma cutter, and just have a MIG a plasma and an arc welder in 3 seperate machines. What ever i do , i really don't want to spen more then $800-$1,000. i have no problem with going used at all. Maybe i will luck out

The better the quality and plus your skills then the cheaper the consumables will be on you. What ever that you get then price the consumables are for a cheapy if that is your route and how long they will be available since if there are no consumables then you will be back to old school tools.
