Tom:  What is the correct part number?  I'm taking a radiator out of my 70 AMX due to a small seep at the bottom of the core -- but if it's the correct part number/date code, you can have it if you still need it.

Yes,I do need the screws for the taillights. Most of the fasteners for the car are missing.

Fine Lines already donated the brake and fuel lines, but not the other ones.

The distributor vacuum line is listed as being needed. Do you also need the rest of the hard lines for the fuel and brake systems? I would be happy to contact Fine Lines about donating these since I used to work there.

I Sent these parts…Windshield washer bag clips (2), Correct nuts for hood hinges-need 8, Correct coil, Correct hose clamps-all, License plate light assy.  If you can't find them let me know and I will ship them again...

 
 
I still plan to send these parts.....Clamps for smog system hoses, Dip stick, Correct distributor cap, Correct “TS” headlights, Cap for inflator bottle, Rain gutter trim-right rear with clip. I have them just not boxed up yet...
 
Is the fan you are looking for a fixed fan or a flex style?

Welting-covers the pinch weld around the doors. Also need both plastic end caps.

Armrest repaired-have 3-doesn't someone repair these?

Black plastic door locks

Plastic seat backs and lower side seat trim for driver's side (small version)

AMX emblem for steering wheel and metal center section

Handle for emergency brake-70 style

Clutch and brake pedal pads

Electric wiper switch assy (donated one has missing connector)

One door pull-hard rubber style

Complete dash crash pad

Sunvisors

Headliner

Vinyl covers for interior windshield posts with clips and screws

Dash speaker

Shift handle needs to be rechromed

Vinyl roof rail trim

Trim around rear window-top and bottom piece and two side "J" shaped parts

Exterior Body Needs:

All four marker lights and correct screws

2 directional light housings, one lens and 2 bulbs. I need the housings with the prongs on the back, not the wires. Here is a picture of the housing with the wire and the push in plug that we need.

Left and right horns

2 small bumper bolts for ends of front bumper

2 360 emblems

Clips for windshield and rear window surround stainless trim

Rain gutter trim-right rear with clip

Quarter window trim-left and right (chrome mounts on top of quarter panel). Also need one clip and both screws

License plate light assy.

Decklid-no rust only

Need a 70 door, left side. Can trade a mint 68 door.

Needs a windshield-tinted

Need taillight housings chromed

need hood trim and headlight door trim chromed

Complete wheel assys-lug nuts, center caps (have retainers), trim rings. Need 4 correct wheels-can trade for the 7 inch Ford ones on the car.

Correct “TS” headlights

Needs retaining nuts and washers for the wiper linkage. need the linkage and parts to attach it to the motor.

Correct machine screws for the headlight doors

Trunk lock and retainer assy.

You'll be happy to hear that the remainder of the General Fund I've been keeping for the car has been turned over to Tom then. I sent a vote out to all the committee members on this to make sure they were aware of it. I was pretty sure everyone would say to hand it over since Tom will be finishing the car. There's no longer a need for any central fund. The last thing I paid for was a token amount plus S&H for the items Eddie sent. I didn't get a reply from several members. Tom rarely returns an e-mail, but I think I knew what his vote would be (may surprise some of you, but same as mine)! As soon as I got a definite majority I sent the money to the PayPal account Tom set up. Rick had mentioned it was needed for paint supplies, but check with the local paint suppliers first!

I would just like to say A big thanks to Rich Corsello for his efforts to get us the tired from Kelsey tire. These are awesome and will look great on the car. Thanks Rich.
 
   I would also like to thank Eddie Stakes for his generous donation with the ram air trim, nos AMC emblem for the rear panel, stainless chin spoiler and the door moisture barriers for the car. Just wanted to take a minute here, to say that I heard from Rick J. yesterday,and the set of  reproduction Goodyear Polyglas  E-70-14 (RWL) tires ,arrived in good condition yesterday ,that Kelsey Tire generously donated for "Hannah" Charity AMX.
 
I also wanted to point out how quickly and selflessly, John Kelsey (owner) and his very able assistant "Peggy" were, to help this cause.
 
I have dealt with Kelsey Tire in the past,and from my first dealing with them,was very impressed! They know how to give their customers satisfaction,and it's through outstanding service and high quality products!(I know because my Kelsey tires have been punished and keep coming back for more LOL !!!)
 
Now,they  didn't ask me to write this,it's just what I think ,and thought you should know too.
 
If you do have a need for reproduction tires for your project,you will not go wrong with Kelsey Tire.

Tom, I've got a box going out today. Unfortunately the blower motor I picked up is junk. I didn't check it out when I picked it up. It was frozen so I took it apart and it was badly rusted inside. Even though it looked good from the outside, all of the steel internals (and part of the case) were shot. I'll keep looking for other parts on the list. I'll check out Larry V's AMC junk yard this week for some of the items. I will post an updated list this weekend of what we still need.  I must say I am a little disappointed we have not had a better response for some of the smaller items.  I know all you AMC guys are parts hoarders and probably have multiples of what we need.

 

We received a set of correct wheels yesterday from a loacl guy and Rich Corsello has come through in a HUGE way-he convinced Kelsey tire to donate a set of E70 x 14 Goodyear RWL tires!!  A local tire store has agreed to dismount the old tires from the wheels so we can clean them up, then mount and balance the new ones for us.

 
We really need correct 70 seatbelts-all of them, and an aircleaner base (have the snorkle and cover) and some ram air parts.  If you don't want to donate them, what do you want for them?
 
There was a work party on the car last Saturday, and another this Saturday.  I haven't had a chance to post pics yet.  The cruise was rained out Friday, but we will be there this Friday as the weather is supposed to be great.
 
And the Pats won without Brady (I am still predicting 12-4 for the season-or better) and the Sox are back in first AND there is an AMX back in my garage.  Life is good!

I seem to recall that an air breather lid was needed, but for the life of me, I can't find the post. It's hard to keep track of what's needed with 3 different threads listing parts needed - one of them 29 pages long.

Is that switch something that's really needed? If there is something on e-bay that we need, pass that info to me. I'll check what vendors are asking for the part to judge what should be given for it (if they have it) and bid on it, and try to have it shipped directly to Tom. A lot of sellers won't ship to anything but the verified PayPal address. They might be convinced to send to the Charity AMX since Tom's address is on the website though.

I have a couple of odds and ends. What size S clips are needed? I have 3 for 5/16" lines (I also have a couple of C clips for the same size lines). I also have a mess of hardware left over from the heater box rebuild on my American: speed nuts (zinc plated with 3/4" flange), keps nuts, star washers (they have both internal and external teeth), lock washers, nuts, and #6-32 and #8-32 Type F (head like a wood screw) thread cutting screws. The hardware is all zinc finish except the S clips (those are either green or black).
 
I also have a blower motor mounting plate and mounting plate to heater box gasket that I'm not going to use. Those are the ones that REM makes (I got them from Kennedy American).
 
Detroit Muscle Technologies should have most of the foam for the heater box (they have all of the heater core stuff for sure, I don't know how different the air door foam is) but the 66-69 American kit is the only one listed right now.

Two items for today. the web address www.charityamx.com was owned by John Wideker. He graciously published it today as a direct link to matts old cars site. So now we just have to say go to charityamx.com and you'll get right to the home page. Thanks for doing this.

I also began the process of registering the project as a non profit tax exempt organization. I should actually have some of the stuff on this tomorrow as the IRS was very helpful. This would help businesses donate items as they would have a tax number to write it off.

Lastly, I think the car should have a name. Cars and Parts magazine did a few restorations and and the cars all had names. What do you think? I've been calling it a "she" but do not know what gender it is.

Yes, the cruise is in Halifax, MA at Walmarts. One thing we hope to do is interest some shops in fixing just a section of the car-such as just the rocker, just the quarter. We are still going to paint it and fix all the panels off the car but our schedule is still ambitious enough to try to get this done by January.

All four marker lights and correct screws

2 directional light housings, one lens and 2 bulbs. I need the housings with the prongs on the back, not the wires. Here is a picture of the housing with the wire and the ush in plug that we need.

2 small bumper bolts for ends of front bumper

2 360 emblems

Clips for windshield and rear window surround stainless trim

Mounts for rear bumper with bumper bolts, nuts and washers. We have a rechromed bumper. (Bumper guards would be a plus!)

Tach wiring harness

Everything we can for the interior. I believe the carpet had been replaced before the Charity project started, and maybe the headliner, but that was all. Seat covers and door panels definitely! I'm not sure about the dash pad, but I don't think Legendary does those anyway. If they do visors to match the door panels and seats that would be good. Even if the door panels we have are in usable condition new ones would be better.

Just left John a message on his machine -- should hear from him this afternoon/evening or tomorrow.

That definitely needs to be done. I'm sure some things got misplaced while the car was in the body shop for so long, but they did send John everything they could find. As noted -- it's inevitable that some get lost as the car moved, that was a known risk from the start. Anyone who doesn't realize that will happen hasn't had to move in a long time!

At this point the car will make one final move. I don't see much point in John Widiker doing a complete inventory. It's much more important that it be done at the final stop so that we can "pick up the pieces" and get everything the car needs to be completed. The completion crew will need to be intimately familiar with all the present and needed bits and pieces, no point in duplicating work. \

Fred did the best documenting and reporting job so far. He watched and learned from previous crews and had a bit more knowledge of what to expect.

The list is pretty old but it is the latest that I have.  It sounds to me like the very next thing that needs to be done after the car comes out of paint is a parts inventory.
 
In the FWIW category, I really liked the parts list I got from Fred Koos when the car left Texas. All parts were laid out and photographed and a PDF was sent to me with a list of all parts and their condition.

Please make note if you choose #3, as after-market and certain other terms can mean different things to different people. There are options with non-stock, should it have a cross-over, or X pipe. Please discuss in the exhaust POLL topic, not here.
 
Please note if trendsetters or sidepipes are chosen, that WILL impact rocker molding, and none is used with those pipes.
No sidepipes, then you need to choose a molding.

Currently the car has the A.I.R. manifolds that were original to the 70s Jeep the engine came from.  Year correct manifolds (non-smog) are really needed to make it a close restoration, which is what was decided many moons ago ("the best we can within reason" -- which meant the newer 360 block wasn't going to be made an issue, but it was built to 70 standards).

Jouhn Widiker says he has one side of the non-smog manifolds, but not sure which. I'm not sure which side rocker molding is needed. We'll have to wait until John has time to look at both parts. I'm not sure about the heat shields and stove pipe, all I can tell you at this point is it's a 49 state car, not CA. I'll get the info from John when I can. Remember, just like you, he has a job and a life outside this. He committed to getting the body work completed and getting it painted. Anything else he does is "extra".

Might have to find someone near the area to arrange to meet him at the shop and do another inventory. Sounds like a duplication, but inventory changes due to donations and sometimes things overlooked when moving, and some parts are simply overlooked when you're not concerned with that particular item. So now that we're looking specifically for the heat shields and stove, and exactly what type is on hand, it may turn up that we either don't have all the components or there is a mix of years. Let's not concern ourselves with what should be or was, but what IS NOW.

Matt dredged up the contact for the side pipes and sent it to me. The Trendsetters were a dealer installed option, but as far as I know were never on this particular car. I'm not sure if the offer for them still stands, didn't want to take them at the time because the car was in the body shop and didn't want to have to ship them 2-3 times, and didn't want to leave something that could be put on almost any car in the shop.

We aren't there yet, would normally let the people with the car who wanted to complete the exhaust work handle this, but since it's been brought up, what should the final exhaust be:
1. Trendsetters (provided they are donated, at least in part).
2. Stock type exhaust (AMX guys -- single or dual?).
3. Aftermarket dual exhaust with good turbo mufflers.

I've never tried -- can anyone create a poll? I'll wait a day or two and cross-post this to the other Forum and AMC-List, with a link to the poll.

If it comes up Trendsetter's I'll give the contact info to whomever wants to take the responsibility of getting them. Installing will be up to someone with the car in hand, of course. It's close enough to finished that it would be appropriate to obtain them now, wasn't a couple years ago.

   Hi, Does anyone know what direction we are going in for the air cleaner-stove pipe-heat shields-rocker moldings-exaust manifold situation. I do know that I have correct dog leg exaust manifolds for the car which would allow it to have the correct air cleaner,stove pipe and heat shields. I also know thatAMXMGS Rsto parts makes these parts repro (ver nice quality and maybe someone might want to contact them about heat shields,stove pipe. I have both types, smog and non smog allthough the smog don't have the tubes. I do also know there is a guy who is slling repro inctor tubes that are non functional. I think Gordy cilson knows who he is and if we can get them I will donate my smog exaust manifolds. The exaust is the only thing that comes into play as it is allready done.  Which Rocker molding is needed? The parts needed list can be found at http://www.mattsoldcars.com/charityamx/partsneeded.html. Here is what is currently on the list:
 
  • Rear axle hardware. (U-bolts, shock plates, etc. to be used when replacing the rear leaf springs.)
  • Windshield Wiper hardware. We need the little chrome collars that attach the windshield wiper mechanism to the cowl panel. Ours are very pitted and nasty.
  • One '70 AMX "simulated exhaust" rocker panel molding.
  • Air Cleaner canister parts. At this point, I think we're going to settle for a '70 canister and top, and leave the heat riser situation up to somebody else. If you have ANY '70 V8, we need a air cleaner canister! Tom Benvie has a complete '68-69 Ram Air canister that he has offered to trade with someone who could provide the '70 style setup. Here are the specific parts that we need:
    (4.015-1) 3191898 - DUCT, Carburetor Air ('68-70 V8 w/4-bbl)
    (4.015-3) 3192223 - DUCT, Exhaust Manifold Hot Air ('68-70 exc. 390)
    (4.088) 3198376 - CLEANER, Carburetor Air ('70 360 V8 w/cold air induction')
    (12.001-16) 3198374 - DOOR, Hood Air Scoop Rear Duct ('70 w/cold air induction')
    (12.001-17) 3198375 - RETAINER, Hood Air Scoop Rear Duct Door ('70 w/cold air induction')
    (12.001-18) 3198370 - CONTROL, Hood Air Scoop Damper ('70 w/cold air induction')
  • Tires. Tom Benvie is currently collecting contributions in order to purchase a full set of reproduction performance tires. The existing tires (two pairs of radials) are already mounted on the car and look quite good. They will suffice until someone is ready to address the wheel situation.
  • Windshield wiper switch and wiring harness for electric wipers.
  • The heat riser tube for the air cleaner
  • Scoop moldings and the molding that goes under the quarter windows in restorable (no cracks, very minor to no pitting) or better condition. The ones for the car are in bad shape.

Ideally, donations of NEW reproduction parts would be best, NOS items as well. When that can't be done, excellent used parts.
