thanks for the insight. I know there kinda hard to find parts for. I searched for 3 months before I found a good engine close by. Yeah, asking $100 plus what it cost to magnaflux is about the limit -- $150 or so. You might want to advertise them for $75-100 plus the cost of magnafluxing. I have to admit, I suggest replacing the 196 with a 199/232 for 64+ cars, but there isn't much of an easy option for older cars. Might take you a couple years to sell, but if you let the AMC Rambler Club know you have tested good heads you should find a buyer in 6-12 months. A NOS head on ebay last fall (Norwalk, OH?) sold for something like $150 plus shipping. I think the value is somewhere in that $100-150 range, though a good, used head is a bit hard to find! (Shipping cost is part of the challenge of asking much more than that.)

What would you pay for a cylinder head that's clean and has recent paperwork to back up that it was checked?


The one I have only had 50k on it and the car it came out of had been kept in running condition it's entire life. that being said It could still have issues that wasn't apparent yet.

I had my lower control arms beadblasted and then magnafluxed, the shop charged me $40 a piece. I'm guessing a head would cost a bit more to get cleaned up.

having just 'been there', for a block NOT magnafluxed, I would not pay for, period. For a 199/232/258 different story, but the Nash engine is too prone to be cracked in it's extreme old age.

I would think if you have proof that they are not cracked, and are ready to bolt on, they should bring $200 or $250?
