Oh, it was over half a year. The thermometer is still over 100 degreeshere in Phoenix and it has cooled down some but I can't wait for some 80 degreeafternoon temps. I saw a few early mornings as low as 75 degrees last week butit has been in the low 80's this week at 6:30 am when I have checked.

<?: prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I have been removing items from the engine compartment andhave just the wiring, steering box, steering column, power brake booster assembly,wiper motor and brake lines left to remove. I plan on media blasting the enginecompartment so I can paint it the stock color before re-installing everything inpreparation for the rebuilt engine, transmission and front suspension.

I bought some 4" flat plate steel and some 1 1/2"square tubing so I could make myself some additional front body casters. I haveone set that I got from the body shop that painted my 70 AMX and my 71 SC/360Hornet. I needed three more sets for my cars since I have three project carsand one parts car all with the front suspensions, engines and transmissionsremoved at this time. I don't like having to pull out the floor jack every timeI need to move one of the cars.

I had to buy 10' of each steel stock so I ended up making 4 1/2pairs of Front Body Casters. To make one more to complete the set is going tobe hard because I need to find the material to match in scrap or I have to by10’ of each steel stock and make 4 ½ more pairs. I don’t want to spend another 18hours making more unless there is other AMC’ers who need them and would bewilling to buy the extra sets.

Here are few pictures of what they look like.

I drilled two set of holes in the upper plates. One set is for AMX, Javelin, Hornet & Gremlin. The other set of holes are for Americans. I tried a 69 Ambassador but one hole is about an 1/8" off. Both holes could be slotted a bit with a rat tail file and then it would bolt right up.

My welding got better as I went. I had the heat too hi and it kept popping the 20 amp circut breaker. I turned the amperage down and I was able to do the full length in one continues bead. This fits in place with the bumper and brackets still in place. I just used a spacer behind the plate at the back bolt to adjust for the side brace. I figure $119 a pair plus shipping as shown on my Rogue or $79 a pair plus shipping without the casters installed. I will include the hardware to install your casters. I bought the casters with brakes #46819 from Harbor Freight Tools. They are 2" x 8" and are rated for 450 lbs each.

Let me know if anyone is interested. Dan Curtis said he wants two sets so I will only have four set available if I go ahead and make another batch. I am not looking to start a manufacturing business since I do have three AMC project cars going so I don't have alot of extra time for this project.

Edited by 17tamx - Sep/25/2012 at 12:48am

I have most of the V8 front suspension off of the parts car. I will be sandblasting all of the pieces and rebuilding and painting everything before they are re-installed. The 290 V8 for this car is in the machine shop at this time and I am waiting for the block and crank to be cleaned and inspected so I know what I need to do. The T-35 auto is already rebuilt. It was in very good shape. I think I have a limited slip for the type one 3.15 american V8 rear end that we installed. The rear end from the parts car turned out that it was a 3.15 open instead of a 3.54 limited like I was told. I need to find a limited slip unit for a type two AMC 20 rear end to trade for the type one with the smaller bolts for the ring gear.

I have been redoing my garage the last few weeks so I haven't had time to work on any of the cars for awhile. The garage is almost completed so the 66 Rogue hardtop is next on the work list.
