Hi. Matt here. Greetings from Kenosha WI. I own a 79 AMC Pacer Limited Hatchback. My front bumper is fine. My rear bumper has rust and bent shock absorbers that cause the whole bumper to sag down so it is out of alignment.
My Question: Are all 75-80 Pacer bumpers the same with the same shock absorbers? If I find a parts car with a bumper with straight shock absorbers and no rust, can I unbolt the whole bumper with the shock absorbers on to my 79? -Matt.

My Hollander has the 75-77 and 78-79 listed separately . That doesn't mean you can't do some adapting. Look at them close till you see the differences. Some else it said I didn't know, front and rear face bars are the same in all years of the Pacer. Within those two groups.

Thanks Tom. When you say that the front and rear face bars are the same, you mean that the front and rear bumpers and shock absorbers are the same front and rear for 75-77 and 78-79? So front and rear are the same? Does the Hollander say anything about the 80 model year? -Matt.

My Hollander stops at 79 for everything, evidently printed then.
It lists bumper assembly, that's the face bar, back bar, and pads or uprights, but not the shocks.
It lists the 75-77 as separate from the 78-79, not interchangeable. It says the front and rear face bars 75-77 are the same, just the face bar. And the front and rear 78-79 are the same, but it doesn't say the face bars in the two different sub groups are the same. When Hollanders list something as interchangeable, it means bolt on. It leaves out the possibility that some might be made to fit with a few simple modifications.

As far as I know the bumper mounts/shock absorbers made a changeover at some point, 76 or 77 I think. Maybe someone on the AMC Pacer Restauration facebook page can confirm this and can help you find some replacements.
