Looked and test drove a 75 Pacer yesterday. None of the gauge cluster works at the moment. No blinker lights, no tech, no Speedo, no fuel reading, and no shift selector needle movement. He says it's just not hooked up. How in depth is the process to hook up the whole gauge cluster and what are the chances it's going to need a lot more than "just hooked up"?

Ha! If it's that easy, he would have done it.

Expect the worst, and be pleasantly surprised otherwise.

Fuel gauge won't work for sure.
Speedo is hard wired, separate wire.

Do the blinkers work on the car, just not lighting up??

And wiring on old AMC's is no picnic. You have been warned.

Blinkers work just no clicker or lights on the dash.

He might be telling the truth.  Not being hooked up will produce about as much results as Congress on a good day.

I have a Pacer but it is a dormant project so don't quote me on the specific procedures, but there are two shaped plugs that needs to be inserted into a matching sockets at the rear of the cluster (one on the rigt and one on the left).  They are different sizes so you can't get them mixed up. Access might be difficult but if you are smaller than Rosanne Barr and adjust the driver seat to the rear, you might have adequate access.  If you buy the car, get a service manual for it.  It in 1975 the Pacer manual was a separate manual from the other AMC models because there was no much new and different from other AMCs (including the entire dash and instrument cluster).
Happiness is making something out of nothing.

Let's CSI this:

Who takes a dash apart, does whatever needed work, puts it back together EXCEPT for connecting two simple plugs. Doesn't make sense.

It's gonna need more attention then that. But wishful thinking is good too...
