My suggestion would be to remove engine and have the whole thing bead blasted and primered so it doesn't continue to rust. Couple of places here in Florida will blast it and spray a self etch primer for around $800-900 (includes engine bay and under hood) but don't know about your area. Then you can work on whats needed. You can get quarter panels from some of the AMC vendors.

OK- tht paint MIGHT NOT buff out!

LOL. Seriously, make a check list of everything you need to get that car to the condition you want to drive it. Being a 1974 fixer upper unless it is some super rare 401 4speed high option baby, you can fix it how you want. Don't feel pressure to make it a 100point resto, that will take lots of $$/time.

1.What engine?
2.Does it run?
3.what does it need in terms of brakes, tires, interior etc....you can always upgrade some things later.

Good luck, looks pretty straight ---check out "rolledon forum" to get some paint on there for now if you do not have a gun, thanks for saving one from the scrap heap. I like it.

My question is what is the 8th vin number, choices are 7 or 8. If its an 8 or car is an amx not a javelin. Many will argue there is no difference, I think there is. The spoiler grill emblems and dash mack me think its an amx, rarer than a javelin. Most amx's have a fiberglass skined hood but I have read some 74's had flat steel hoods because they ran out of fiberglass ones. The car may be more special than you think.

As far as fixing it, I would take it apart and look for damage. Under the front fenders are a trough that rusts, check them. The rockers rust a lot, both inner and outer, outer is easy to see the inner is about were your feet are in the car.  The quarters look bad, not sure how available the out wheel housing is but they look to be rusted also. You said the floors are rusted. Some cars you can use a right front fender to fix a left quarter, not sure if this works for a javelin or not.

Make a list of what you want from the car and what the car needs to meet that goal.

There is a list of vendors in this forum check with them as to parts to meet your goal.

MAKE THAT THE 6TH DIGIT OF THE VIN. ID IT A 7 OR 8?
