Is there a difference between the three speed transmission cross member and a four speed T10 cross member on a 73 AMX Javelin? My Hurst shifter doesn't have room to move levers. If anyone can take a few pictures of theirs I would very much like to see them. Or if a member is close to Beaver Falls Pa, and would not mind me sliding under their car to look, please contact me. e-mail is BRETTH21073@YAHOO.COM. Thank you.

If it is an aftermarket style of Hurst shifter, you'll probably have to cut the crossmember to make room for the shift levers. If it is the original Hurst shifter, it should fit the crossmember without modification.

Does the shifter handle bolt on to the mechanism, or does it slide in & is locked in by a flat spring? That will help to determine what type of shifter you have.

Hopefully you can make it to next year's Pittsburgh area AMC Get Together! Pictures of the 9-23-2018 event here: http://theamcforum.com/forum/pittsburgh-get-together-2-pics_topic96480.html

My shift lever bolts into the shifting mechanism.

You'll need to cut the top of the crossmember to get that style of shifter to fit. Weld plate on the bottom side, below where you cut, to reinforce.

Ok. Thank you Scott for the information. I got this car as a rolling chassis from a friend in South Carolina. No Engine or drive train and I am trying to build it to put back on the road. VIN numbers say it was a 304 3 speed.

before you cut the crossmember, get a new transmission mount, bolt everything together, and see how much clearance you need.  You may be ok or maybe you can space up the mount underneath with a plate or washers to slightly raise the transmission.

I ran the aftermarket Hurst and did not need to touch the crossmember or use a spacer.
