    Posted: Mar/23/2014 at 7:12pm
I'm new to this site although I have read several of the forums. Today I was helping my brother work on my nieces car a 73 Javelin 304 3 Speed (I think its a B&W T-14 ) when they brought the car it had an aftermarket Hurst shifter, since the shifter did not have the angle needed you would bash your knuckles on the dash when going into second gear, in addition it never shifted right. So my brother picked up an original Javelin 3 speed shifter from eBay. When we went to install it we weren't sure if we have all the pieces, in addition we're not sure if we are hooking it up correctly. We searched the service manual and the net but came up empty. Here are the pictures, if anyone has any tips, diagrams or pictures on how to install this shifter I would be very grateful. Thanks!

Lets see if we can make it work this way?

I have never seen a shifter like that but if the rods are closer together I think it would work.
I saw the levers that bolt to the trany studs they need to go back on the trany. Then will the rods fit the levers and rods be closer together?
Other than that I dont know that shifter to help more.

Gastona, I did note that 1 of the 2 arms that bolt to the trany studs did not have a slot to fit over the stud. Is that true or is it just the picture? if it does not have a slot you will need to find one to use or the arm can turn on the stud.

Dave your right! One does not have the notch cut out. I'll see if I can find one maybe if amcglass finds the shifters he has he would be willing to sell one of them. Thanks for the advice.

The 2 levers that go on the shift shafts ,it looks like the longer one is missing the hug plate that goes on the shaft underneath it . The hug plate has the slot . the longer lever goes on top of it. Factory T-10 shifters ( Ford style & Hurst ) used them for the adjustment. The 3 speeds only used 1 of them.

I am not sure how much help I can be or maybe I am not sure what your question is, but that is the shifter that was on my Gremlin I owned way too many years ago.
One of the rods I think  the one closest to the transmission is the reverse/1st rod and the other is the 2/3 rod.  Thus the end would attach to the appropriate shaft on the transmission.  It works because when the neutral point of the shift lever is reached the notch in the two rods are directly across from one another and you wiggle the shift lever to get it to move the other rod.
How close together these rods would be would depend on the shape of the attaching piece at the end of the rod as it attaches to the rod and the shift tit on the transmission.   The one with the rectangular slot in it looks probably correct. The other one I am not sure of but there would have to be some adjustment of one of the rods anyway to insure the throw is correct so maybe how it is held on the transmission is different.
Sorry if this is of no value to you.  I was always amazed the doggon thing actually worked it was such a mickey mouse design.  And I had a lot of problems with that transmission so it was in and out a number of times. It looks to me as if you have all the pieces.  Well after a second look, maybe not.  The attaching piece on the right with two holes looks correct , the longer one with 3 round holes looks like something is missing, the piece that actually attaches to the stud on the transmission. .   Once again if this  has been no help it sure brought back long forgotten memories, one of which the shift lever rattled like mad.
Good luck!
