So I'm new to the forum. I'm young and Dnt make a lot of money so my build is definatly a budget build. I have a 73 javelin. 304 with the standard 3 speed with what I believe to be a t14. I'm building a 360 that's bored .030 over with forged rods and pistons. 10.5 to one compression. I plan on also doing a low boost turbo blow through set up. From what I have read the t14 does not seem like a very strong trans and I Dnt know very much about the Amc rear ends. So I'm thinking they probably will not last very long. I suppose my question is how much power do you guys think a t14 will handle before it goes poof. And same question on the rear end. I plan on some drag radials in the rear to get a little more hook up. Also any suggestions on a buyer minded clutch set up

Yea look for an AMC T10 or spend some $$ for a stronger 5 sp trany than the T5 if you are hitting the drag track as I dont think a WC T5 would last long either.
As for the rear what you going to use to replace the stock AMC model 20 8 7/8 ring gear with?
Replace the the axles with Mosers, brace the spring mounts, should do that with any rear used, and a good twin grip unit and you are good to go with that rear.
BTW I am using the AMC 20 in my 70 Javelin drag car alxes, Detroit locker, 4.56 gear, braced mounts & Cal track bars all pushed by a junk yard built 360/TH400.

Would a t10 bolt right up to my bellhousing? And would all the clutch stuff be the same? And I was thinking I would try to find a Ford 9inch and swap it in if the old rear end wouldn't handle the power. Or are the Amc diffs pretty beefy with some better shafts and everything. I'm a little more from the rock crawlig world and I have seen people put a lot of money into rear ends and it all ends up a waste cause they are never happy with it and breaks parts every trip. Not sure what kind of ring gear I want, guess it would depend on the trans of choice I go with

I dont know how deep the bell housing you have now is or if the T10 will bolt to it, maybe someone knows? I do know the T10 housing is deeper than a 6cly bell that is needed to bolt up a T5. I only can go by T10 & T5 as I went from a T10 to a T5 on my street Javelin. Drag Javelin runs an auto & Mosers in the AMC 20 rear.
The weak link of the AMC model 20 rear end that is in your car is the 2 piece axles. Last I heard it was a little over $450 and a week for Moser axles. If you want add a carrier & gears and you are done. With a ring gear of 8 -7/8” it is a little smaller than the Ford 9” and bigger than the Mopar 8-3/4”.
I have not heard of any one blowing up a model 20 rear but have seen bent spring mounts if not braced and using sticky tires. I do hear you about putting money into something and still have junk, the 20 is not that way once the axles are replaced. Dave ---- |

The hub is pressed onto the shaft. There is a key way and a big nut keeping it together. With enough power and traction you can spin the axle in the hub

Wow that really sucks. So you can't just weld it and make it a one piece
