'71 Javelin 304  flexplate solution(s) ??

Given that '71-'70 304 flexplate is unique, what's best fix for damaged ring gear teeth ?

AMClives offers a billit copy, but it's expensive...$340......and not clear what "factory balance means"
 1) anybody have experience with it ?...  did  it need to be re-balanced ?....starter lined up ?

2) is there another supplier ? (no luck w/Summit or Jegs)

3) has anyone welded-up bad ring gear teeth, and ground or cut back to shape ? (avoids balance problem)

4) any other fix ??                         (TIA)    Lou

You could past a wanted add, it might help to have a picture of what yours looks like. A good machine shop could remove the ring gear and replace it. Should be the same gear as a manual trans. I would not trust a welded gear.

Have you check the AMC vendors like Kennedy American, American Parts Depot, Galvins, or Blazers?

Jeff Kennedy at Kennedy American used to have a guy to repair them, including cracks in the center.....contact him...he is in the Vendor Directory.

(revised, Thank You 304-dude)
Another option, as I understand it but have not actually done it, is if you find ANY BW M-35 Flexplate
and you still have the Flexplate correct for your car, a "good" engine shop can Re-Balance
the "new whatever" Flexplate and match balance it to your existing bad ring gear Flexplate.

He's got the M 45 tranny like me if he is correct about the 304.

I disagree with the analogy that a welded ring gear is not to be trusted.
I agree with an improperly done repair job not trustable.
Do it correctly including preheat, correct build up filler material,  post heat, stress relief, correct reshaping of the teeth, and case hardening where required and the welded ring gear will be as good or better.
It's all about who is doing it and how.
Does it make sense to do that from a cost standpoint? Versus have the shop remove and replace the entire ring gear?
Only you can decide that.
