I need a heater core for my '71 Hornet
Unfortunately, the 70-72 Hornet and Gremlin heater core is different from the 73-77 and very hard to find.
The only place I could find it is IneedArad.com
http://www.ineedarad.com/92052.html

It's $183 after shipping and taxes.
Someone tell me this is what has to be done so I can just get it over with. It's hard to spend that much without knowing for sure no one else has one for less.

Anyone know what the difference in the heater cores are between the 70-72 and 73 and up? It looks like the only difference is the end panels. Is there actually a size difference?

I know that the AMC parts vendors were selling the early Hornet cores as the correct one for an AMX or Javelin. You had to add the extra AMX Javelin end panel for it to be correct. I would suspect that the later Hornet cores are the same as the early ones but the end panel is different (easy fix). Anyone ever measure them?

I thought early ones were perfectly horizontal in the heater box while the '73-and-up ones lay at a 45° angle.  The tubes are also in different locations.

I think this is exactly right. I had contacted a guy about making some HVAC gaskets for my hornet and he said the same thing.
"On AMC's 70-72 heater boxes had the heater core parallel to the dash. 73 and up the heater core was on an angle.

This one looks like the correct one but the end plate is different from a 71 core.

If push comes to shove, I know I have some good used cores around here from 70-72.

Got really excited seeing it and then... no more in stock :(
Customer service says "check back in 7 days"
YEAH RIGHT like you're going to have it next week.
AAP then told me to call my local store but the store locator only works with your zip code and up to 100 miles... it couldn't find a store.

I had special ordered it from Summit and they originally said 6-8 weeks and kept stringing me along for 6 months until I realized they are never going to make this core for me.

Would you like for me to see if I can get? It will be straight up what it costs and actual shipping. Let me know, I do a lot of dealings with auto parts stores and I do have a higher up I can go to.      Steve.
