Anyone know if the tag on a 70 York AC compressor is removable? There is what looks to be two small 5/32" hex head fasteners or rivets holding the tag on, I don't want to twist them off if they are permanent.

They are screws...use a ignition wrench. you might have to grind it flat, get rid of any chamfer, sinc ehte head is so thin. I have taken off plenty of them

The aftermarket York knock off compressors being sold today are using drive screws with rounded off heads to secure that tag, How does one get those out without destroying the tag ? Once they're out could the holes be tapped ? IIRC those little screws used on the York tags were self tappers.

I was able to remove the tag fasteners, I did have to tap the socket down on the fasteners to seat it all the way down.
