I'm looking for the plastic dash carrier for a '70 rebel. I don't need any gauges, just the plastic surround.
I'm guessing it fits other years and models? I don't know.
Any help appreciated.

Do you have the one piece or two piece dash pad assembly? They used a different gauge overlay panel for each style. Then, do you have AC, Command Air or no AC?? AC & Command Air overlays have a stainless overlay, non AC are painted silver. The two piece non AC overlays are out there, one piece overlays are much harder to find.

The switch from two to one piece seems to have happened some time in April of 1970.

Thanks guys for the info.
I have the one piece dash pad and no A/C. So are you saying the lower carrier is also a one piece all the way across? It looks like it separates, but I probably need to look closer at it.

The lower panel that surrounds the gauges is two pieces, the passenger side & the gauge surround side. I should have made it clearer that when I say one piece & two piece I am referring only to the dash pad assembly.

Then, depending on which dash pad style you have the gauge overlay changes.

I've never come across the part you need in 27 years of Machine ownership and lots of buying & selling of parts.

I am not familiar enough with the 71 Matador & Ambassador parts 401harry suggests to say they will or will not work. I seem to recall one of those cars uses round gauges, so that excluded that . The finish on the panel may not be correct, but you may be able to redo that to match the Machine look. Worth some further research.

Get in touch with 6PakBee, I think he has pictures of all the Machine dash overlay variations.

I have never been able to definitely determine what is accurate.  This is what I believe to be the non-AC  base configuration for the one piece dash.

You can tell the difference between the one piece and two piece by the length of the lip on the IP bezel.  Here is shot of a one piece Ambo dash.

The Matador bezel is similar but it uses an aluminum fascia that is glued to the bezel.  Note that neither of the alternate bezels have the short horizontal trim bars on either side.

Roger,
I guess I'm not sure what you mean in your comparison. The two pics are a different angle, so I'm not sure what to look at and compare. Can you clarify?
Mine looks like the one in your top photo for sure.
I need that one !!

This is the best pic I have of a two-piece bezel.  Note how narrow the upper 'lip' is compared to the one piece.  That is the major difference I've found between the one and two piece bezels.

Hey guys, still trying to research this dash to see what years/models to look for for my '70 rebel.
You guys have me confused. As far as I have seen, either in real life or researching pics, is that the Ambo dash always has round gauges...? Harry says the '71 Ambo will interchange, and Roger says the pic shown of the rectangle wood grain dash is from an Ambo as well.. Did AMC just put in any dash they had on the assembly line for these cars, or are you guys maybe mistaken?
Someone help me out, I can't figure out what to think here...?
Thanks, Walt
