not to be a SMART-A$$ but you just re-read what you said here. Not really the same as swapping a front clip is bolt on and does not require any welding.... but yet you put a 69 fender on and had to WELD the marker light hole. really all I was saying is a person could do any modifications any changes if they wanted to put the work into it.

Just FYI, the lower control arms are different, but the front engine cross member is the same. When you say structure, I think of the parts that make up the unibody. Technically the only parts that are same from the firewall forward, from 68 to a 70 that are part of the welded unibody are the upper and lower radiator crossmember, left and right frame rails and the left and right fender baffle under the fender at the front of the trough..... [/QUOTE]401MATCOUPE, Thanks for clarifying the control arm differences. I hate it when the wrong info is posted and it doesn't get corrected. I couldn't remember for sure so I appreciate the correct info. IIRC, the 70 under structure (unibody) more closely matches the 71 - 74 bodies than the 68-69. So the posters choice in keeping the 70 makes some sense, There should be more things available for the 70 due to higher production numbers. I do, however, hate seeing anything but rusty messes cut up these days. There's only so many of our cars made and when they're used up, that's it, game over. |

In my case I was not trying to swap a complete nose to get a different look. I wanted to put it back the way it was originally and that required a modification to the side marker hole. If the goal is to swap to an entire front outer clip (bolt on), there would be no reason to modify the side marker hole if you intend to use the markers that match the fenders you use. I only changed 1 fender and wanted it to work with the original marker. If they also wanted the 70 suspension, that would also be an option but way more work.

Wow I figured the post had died. Lots of great info form all of you guys.
I will be bolting on the sheet metal only for the front end then possibly small stuff here and there. The 70 body is dry with no rust so it should go well. |
