I actually enjoyed the removing of paint (I ain't going to step into another stripper joke). Call me crazy, but it was sort of relaxing.

Typically, stripping can be a very relaxing activity. I like to watch the wife strip (the car, of course)!

I use chemical stripper for the bulk (I tape off the jamb area so it does not creep into crevices as much as possible) and then after it's mostly removed I take it down with 80 on the D/A. Using the stripper saves a lot of time vs trying to sand it all down..it had two paint jobs on it....So basically it had primer, lacquer color, clear then sealer and a single stage urethane job on top...The old Lacquer job had started to "Check" late 90's so I gave it a wham bam urethane job to help hide the issues..it worked for a while but I really should have stripped the original paint off back then. From experience, this stuff works great to preserve all your hard work until you get back into primer.

Spent all day today stripping the left quarter, lower rear valance, left fender and left door! All that is left to strip is the right door and windshield cowl area...Cowl will be d/a'd to keep stripper out of cowl vent area.
Anyone have a suggestion as to safely remove the rain gutter trim? I left on last time but think I should take it off this time to make sure I get all areas cleaned up...plus i wont have to keep masking off to keep from damaging it.  Edited by dkrtgood - Nov/05/2011 at 5:15pm |

I've always had luck with a pop bottle opener. Just wrap some tape around the part that comes in contact with the trim and gently start prying in little incriments. I would spray some WD-40 up in there to help loosen it up.
