If a 70 Javelin was built with a six cylinder engine and disc brakes up front, would the booster be the same one as the V8 cars?

I would assume so, but I don't recall ever seeing an I6 with discs. Anyone ?

Thanks,

Armand,

My 1970 US/Canada Sales information only shows Front Disc Brakes available on V-8 cars any body style).   The parts book doesn't say with or without any particular engine type, just With Disc Brake (WDB) or Less Disc Brake (LDB).

HOWEVER, Disc Brake was an Option offered on many exports with 6 cylinder engines, but I have no data on what booster was used in these applications....they may have even been Manual Disc Brake.  Our friends in Mexico and Australia might be able to shed some light on that.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Ross,

I've been shopping for a rebuilt back up booster for the 70Javelin and I'm finding that the listings aren't correct.

Ebay and several other vendors are showing a rebuilt booster with a Cardone 54-73105 part number as fits 70 Javelin Disc brakes with 232 only. If the I6 cars didn't get discs, some one is really messing up and probably killing sales.

Good question. Drum brakes typically used a single diaphragm booster, discs a dual. You'd think a six cylinder car wouldn't need as much boost, but then it's not that much lighter than the V-8.

Ross is correct. There was no disc brake option on 6 cylinder '70 Javelins. Power drum brakes were an option.

Now it makes sense.  I was on NapaOnline and the booster they list for the '70 Javelin 6 cylinder was the 54-73524 which is the drum booster.

Remember 6 cylinder cars had 9 inch brakes and V-8's had 10 inch brakes too

I am going to forge ahead here and purchase one of the mistitled boosters that have the correct part number.

I'll report back here when it arrives.

autopartskart.com

is the website, dunno what's up with can't get the link to post and when clicked on takes ya to it....

Anyway, after getting to their page, type in the part number 54-73105 and the booster comes right up.

They sell the booster for $61.21 plus a $14.55 core deposit.
with shipping to me total is $88.10.  I ordered it.

They take paypal, both are secured https sites.

It costs more to send the core in that it's worth. That's sad.

I am curious, which of the two booster brackets do you have?
