Getting closer to the installation of my new 360 and 904 transmission in my 69 Rambler. Running through my mind potential challenges with the installation. I will be using Bulltear engine mounts on my 6 cylinder engine crossmember for the new V8 engine and from what I have read on various threads this should work just fine.
Now my mind is turning to the 904 transmission. I have never done this swap before so for anyone who has done it have you had to modify the old transmission crossmember to allow for proper placement of the new 904 transmission or does it go back into place and fit properly without modification? If not, what modifications will be necessary? Or is a completely different transmission crossmember necessary for this swap? Thanks for any advice you can share. |

I used the Bulltear mounts on a 401 in 69 and had no problems, just drilled for 5/16" bolts, but I used a 727 trans and all I did was weld a plate to the original crossmember about 3" long and it was almost perfect, then placed the trans mount on top of the plate, bolted right to the trans.

That's all I did for the 727 mount in my American. The 727 came out of a postal jeep. I used the same jeep trans mount and welded a plate into the cross member, Worked out great. Not much difference in a 727 and 904. Have Fun with your AMC, Ollie |

Thanks Krauss101. So if I understand correctly, you simply used the jig that came with the Bulltear mounts to drill the additional holes in the 6 cylinder engine crossmember for the 5/16" bolts. That is good to know that worked fine.
Sorry, but I lost you on the welded piece for the trans crossmember. Why was it needed for your 727 transmission? Allignment or was it used like a spacer in the middle of the top of the crossmember? Thanks for your reply. |

I welded the plate to the crossmember because the original BW holes didn't line up and also as a spacer, as the mount was to low in the cross member.

Are these the mounts that you ended up using Matt?
http://www.bulltear.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_35&products_id=155 I keep reading posts about them coming out a little too low? Does anyone have pictures as to how they adapted them to work? |

My motor and trans mounts are stock NAPA. Motor is just a bolt up.
The 727/904 transmission will sit to low in the mount in your trans cross member. You need to weld 1/4" plate into the cross member to raise the mount up higher. Drill new holes in your added plate and bolt up. If you don't add some lift, the tail housing of the trans will be riding on the cross member. Have AMC Fun, Ollie |

That's much more clear to me.
Any idea on how the T10 would ride with these mounts? |

No, but I bet your money on the fact it would be just about as simple of a fabrication job. Have AMC Fun, Ollie |

Funny you say that, I will be betting my own money . Once again, I'll post everything in my build when done - if they happen to find this post in their searching.
