There is a thread on the rare column shift console. If you don't have it, it may be impossible to find now.

The rare column shift console was introduced in 1969 so would not be appropriate for a 68. Actually it isn't the console that's rare, it's the forward trim piece that does not have the opening for the automatic shifter and quadrant.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

Three options;
1) console with I believe 6 mounting points from the floor (might be 8???) pretty rare as mentioned, Optioned in 69 but "may" have been available late 68 as per some adverts.
2) folding arm rest with 4 mounting points between the seats
3) nothing
If you expose the floor hump it will tell you.  Evidence of brackets being removed or not installed as they were welded on the hump.

Center armrest also became an option in '69, not available on '68s. So no, if you had a column shift '68, there's nothing between the seats.

Tom Benvie, and I found a column shift console Javelin in a Rhode Island junk back in the mid 80's. I kinda remember it being a 68 (no woodgrain) but my memory isn't as good as it used to be..
