The sail panels in my 68 AMX are in pretty shoddy shape. I see that some of the larger AMC parts vendors APD, Galvins, Kennedy , American Performance etc are selling repro sail panels..Has anyone had any experience with any of these repro panels that are being offered.

Thanks Joe

I've installed several sets in 68 AMX's, all black/charcoal, and found they fit quite well. Pay attention to whether you want sail panels punched for the shoulder belt bolts or not. Very early 68 cars did not have the shoulder belts, hence, no punched holes. Some folks prefer the plain versions whether or not their car came with the shoulder belts as they are kinda clunky looking and not only difficult to use, but hard to find all of the parts in good condition. Your call. I got mine from APD.

What do you mean by shoddy? The sail panels in my Javelin were unbroken, but the sun had chalked the surface. The plastic would crumble at touch. I used vinyl dye to stabilize them, and now they look like new.

AMX original sail panels are not plastic like a Javelin.

The panels in my car are made of a paper/cardboard material with a silver type of foil covering on the back side and a black textured finish on the interior side.. The paper/cardboard material is breaking down and starting to fall apart. They have the holes for the shoulder harness.
