So, it seems that this car is having one problem after another. Now when I crank the car, the starter turns and rotates the engine, but it quickly kicks out, and it sounds like the solenoid stops working. The motor itself is still turning, but it sounds like the starter drive is no longer wanting to stay engaged. I haven't done anything to it yet, but research online is showing that no one sells a starter, nor parts for the starter for the car. Would anyone know what starter this is on the car, and what other cars use it? If none, is there a starter that I can substitute for the car? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Advance also lists a rebuilt starter and the parts but Rock Auto is less expensive. Before you condem the starter, you may want to check the battery cable and the connections.

Sounds like the bendix (drive) is shot. Easy enough to replace.

or find a shop that specializes in starters and alternators  not many of those around, but they could get parts to fix it.

Well, we finally had a warm day to get the starter off. Needless to say, I am pretty pissed off. For starters (tee-hee), the starter was LOOSE, like someone didn't even bother to tighten it down because it's in a tight location. #2, I can't find anything for the starter locally. I've been to 6 different places, and no one can identify the starter with the model #. It says Delco Remy, and has the typical model # format for these. The number is #1107331. All I get when I type it in online is the starter drive, and nothing else. Also there were no shims, but no signs of damage are shown, so apparently it doesn't need shimmed.

Agreed.
You may just need a simple part for it. Not a bad job to do.
I'd do that before I put a reman starter on it!
Esp if your starter motor sounds ok and has the guts still to turn it over.

Absolutely. I dont like remans, but sometimes no choice.  if a delco-remy, that is an easy starter to work on. ford starters are not too bad unless you had to replace the brushes,   that is something I would also inspect on your starter, is the brushes, and they are very easy to replace. if you find a good parts man, they will be able to find parts for that starter, and maybe even know where a starter/alternator rebuilder is locally, because they will definitely have the parts you need. check the teeth on the flexplate too

Well, absolutely no luck finding anything for this starter. I did find it's a Delco SD 300, but turns out there are 90,000,000 different variations of this model. So, I am going to try to just replace the  drive, and hope for the best. I knew I should have expected this with a older car.
