I have swapped in a 304 with a 904 trans into my '65 American. I got all the top side stuff done, now I'm going underneath to button that stuff up. I was told the factory '65 trans cross member will work with the 904 but I'm not sure. I slipped the cross member under the car and then tried to slip the mount between it and the transmission but the mount is too tall it seems. I can probably raise the transmission high enough to fit the mount in there but the trans will get into my floor shifter and the kickdown rod will hit the body. I'd like to hear and see pictures of what you guys, who have done this swap, have done. The 304 and 904 are out of a '79 AMX. The trans mount I bought is for the same car. I can make the 904 and the '65 cross member work by building my own rubber mount but if there is an easier way or there is a different rubber mount that will work, I'd rather go that route of course.

I used a generic GM (I think) trans mount.
it used the two slotted side to side holes instead of the front to rear holes and I did a little bit of shaping on it with a diegrinder, but it wasn't to bad to fit.
Mines on an AMC T5, but uses the same mount as a 904 near as I can tell. I bought an 82 Spirit mount for a T5, but was like you say. Way to tall...

I just happen to have a GM mount. I'll see what I come up with. Thanks. I was wondering about an '80's Wagoneer mount. They don't look a whole lot different than the GM mount.

Here's what I've come up with so far. This is a polyurethane mount I bought long ago for another project but never used. It's made by Energy Suspension and it came with everything I needed. The mount and the plate are longer than the AMC mount so I had to modify the plate in the kit. By modify I mean I just drilled one hole (middle bolt in the pic). The middle bolt and the bolt on the right will bolt to the transmission and then the new mount will bolt to the plate. The middle bolt and plate will go on first. The bolt on the right will pass through the mount, spacers, and the plate into the transmission. On the left, the plate, mount, and spacer will be sandwiched with a nut and bolt. Simple stuff. The mount and crossmember are held together with a bolt instead of studs so I can go up with the transmission to where I need it and use spacers between the mount and crossmember.

I'm trying to do the same thing (put in a 904 with the old 69 Rambler transmission crossmember). Curious which was easier, the method/product described by ramblinfsj or the one described by one bad rambler. Probably a few ways to skin the cat but looking for the easiest.  Thanks.
