I searched, but may not have asked the right question... so...
Is the CID cast in the block like on V8's? If not, what other visual cues tell me the cubic inches if the decals are gone? Does the under-hood tag give the displacement? G

On the pass. side of the block , there is a flat machined area between the Dist. & the front of the block. There are #s and a letter stamped there. The letter is a code, look up the letter in a TSM or Equvalent.

This site gives an explanation on the meaning of those nummers and letters. It should give you the info to id your engine. |

You are looking at the wrong place on the block. The seven digit number is the casting number of the block which relates somewhat to the year, but should not be used to date the engine.
Not sure about the four digit code you provided. Joe |

I'll be interested to hear what the displacement and year is -- don't have that casting number in my list.
You were given the link to car serial/VIN numbers, not engine numbers! This will help: http://www.amcrc.com/members/engine.html |
