Yup. Loved it with the stock cam and 2.87 gears. However now with an Edelbrock Performer Plus cam, I need a lot more gear, so now I hate it. lol

There are a lot of 5 and 6 speed conversions. T-5 is common I used a Tremec TKO with the .65 5th so I get 1980 rpm @ 70 mph with a 3:15 rear.

I put a Mustang unit some where around 1993 or so about 50,000 miles ago. It was from an 87 v8 (if I remember correctly) w about 100,000 miles on it that went sideways into a telephone poll. It was kinda fun driving the Mustang with goggles on to protect the eyes from glass splinters blowing in from windshield. The passenger door was about at my right elbow and it surprised me that you could actually drive it. Any way with a little care it has lasted behind a cooking version of a 390 and I have no regrets of buying it or using it and whether I use it or not I have enough parts stashed to do it again on another AMC engine.

Here's a few links to T5 installs from a previous post. I used the last one. Did everything he did except i notched the crossmember rather than cutting off part of the tail housing. Worked like a charm. Start here: http://theamcforum.com/forum/parts-list-for-a-t5-swap_topic37731.html and here http://www.schwallers.com/Scott/AMC/64American/T5Swap.htm http://mysite.verizon.net/amxjavelin/t5swap/t5swap.html If anyone is looking for a good strong rebuilt T5, i used Promotion Powertrain out of Florida. Here's a link to their site. Good prices for what your getting too. I got the 2.95 1st gear and .59 5th. Runs about 1900 RPM's at 80 MPH with a 3.54 rear gear. Thinking of stepping up to a 4.11 on the rear now. Like everyone else has said, this is by far the best mod I've done to my car. So smooth and quiet compared to the T-10. http://promotionpowertrain.com/TRANSMISSIONS_.html |

Just try to keep in mind one very important item. The basic Ford WC T5 has about 2/3'rds the torque rating of a T-10 for example and significantly greater than a T4 or T5 as used by AMC in the last of their installations. They can be broken by doing things like side stepping clutches or things of that nature. So take some care of it if you want it to last. Mine has lasted 21 years or so and 50,000 miles behind my 375 HP 390 for a couple of reasons, one of which I was careful as to just how stupid I was to treating it well. The torque rating can be improved via a variety of modifications however if not done, it will still work well if you are careful.
