dang Chuck that tag sure looks familiar!
Sidewinder is right - M is december, I know that folks get thrown off by a month when getting later in the year on these carbs because a letter was skipped - not used. You'll find that in other spots, too, however. I was often skipped due to looking like a 1, or, in some cases, they used lower case and i looked like a lower case j in some fonts or typesets. In any case, knowing that M is December means that you can count from each end of the year and get the correct month. |

Guys,
If you're paying attention to this post, the other codes are stamped physically on the mounting boss corner.
Here's what I found for '71 and what others have found for '70:
'70 = DOFF R
'71 = D1FF EA
It would be great if someone would continue the string and all '72 and up tags and stamped codes for the 4300 thru time.Also, if your '70 or '71 motorcraft has additional codes it would be great to get them listed here as well.
Thanks to Bill D and all who added helpful information to this string on 4300 carburetors.

Hi!
I need help with my 1973 amc motorcraft carb.
The tag says,
3TA4 FB (Looks like model year 1973 , 360-401 engine family, automatic, 4bbl) FB?
D 2K 31 D? (Looks like date code 1972, October 31st
The throtte body says,
D3 FF FB
This carb is installed on a 1973 AMC Javelin AMX and I need to know the correct fuel filter setup?
This is the type of filter installed on it now and from my searching online this is for older cars and I need to replace it.
Looks looks like I need an adapter for the carburator for the correct fuel filter filter to attach!????
Is this the correct type filter for 1973?
So where can I get that adapter that screws into the carb you know right where that "older filter" screws into?
I am looking at the parts diagram for the 1973 motorcraft model 4300 for AMC cars and nothing shows a fuel filter or adapter..
Any input will help thanks,

Wow! This is hard to beleive.... I just realized that this motorcraft carburetor ( build date of October 31st 1972 matches the build date on this my 1973 Javelin AMX which the car was built in October 1972.. I say WOW because I bought this motorcraft 4300 18 years ago from American Performance Products and I guess it was just chance that it was built in the same month my car was built ...
My Javelin amx was a 360 2bbl changed over to a 4 bbl with OEM AMC intake but it had a holly on it and I wanted the correct motorcraft carburetor so I bought one from American Performance 18 years ago and little did I know until now the carb was built in the same month my car was built so they match ..... I think that is just sheer luck I tell ya.
Sad part is it has a crack in the throttle body right by the throttle linkage probabaly from the rebuilder. Not sure if it is really causing a problem since it's a hair line crack . I am going to try the fuel tank epoxy on the outside part of the crack. Yes it sounds like a hack job but I am going to be precise on the cleaning and the applying of the epoxy . Like i said it may not even be causing an air leak but I will see after everything is back together.
Still need to know the correct fuel filter set up for it though?

You need a simple brass nipple that screws in like that filter was, then a canister type filter, that uses short pieces of gas hose and 4 hose clamps to attach to the fuel line and carb.
Scroll down to the chrome canister filter, 941 1008E
