We used tomco kits in the 70s and early 80. Never had a failure........
Don't know what they were like in the 90s.
But then this thread is about 4300 carbs as used on AMCs, telling the differences between years and AMC vs Ford, not a debate on replacement parts or racing rules.

To get back on the real reason for this post, here are some pix of a 72 carb. It is actually a late 71 dated carb for the 72 model year. Notice that it has a script AM hang tag. If I am not mistaken, they changed to an A-mark (not the reproduction parts vendor) stamped tag in late 72. This carb also has a screw in PCV nipple.

And the flare fitting for fuel, where before it was a hose barb.
Thanks, Joe.

The tag indicates a 1971 model year carb. That's what the 1TA4 is about (it's not a date code). If it were a '72  model year carb, the main code would be 2TA4Wink

Bill,
Here is some helpful info on '71 4300 carburetors.

One important telltale sign of the true '70 or '71 Motocraft carb is the fact that they DON'T say word Motorcraft anywhere on the body of the carb.

I noticed the M word stamped into the 4300 body starting in '72 I believe.

I just went through a period of trying to collect up as many '71 date coded carbs as possible so I paid attention to these kinds of details. All the '71s I found also had a dashpot assembly. All had manual chokes with the words LEAN and arrows pointing how to rotate the chock cover. The also all had the metal plate for holding the heater hose.

Mine were all coded D1 FF EA on the mounting boss corner.

Special thanks to Joe Roberts of NY for his help in finding a primo '71 carb for my friend jeff B.

As long as we are documenting 4300 carbs I thought I'd post pics of a nicely restored 70 4300.   The carb is stamped DOFF  R  on the base .  The tag is not orginal to the carb but is correct for my car.  Note that the date code is R  9 J 19 which is correct for Sept 19 1969.  The J is substituted for Sept because the letter "I" was not used by Motocraft because of any possible confusion with the number 1.   That also means that later months Oct, Nov and December were K,L M
