The 998 will be fine. You might want to put a "towing" shift improver kit in it and add an external cooler in addition to the radiator mounted cooler. Put the cooler in the return line so fluid goes through the stock radiator cooler then the add-on.  The 998 is sort of between a 904 and 727 as far as strength. As long as you're not on the strip all the time or have the 360 built with big sticky tires on the Gremlin, and set it up to really hook up, you shouldn't have any trouble from it. The shift kit will make it shift faster and harder, which means it slips less between gears. That will increase life.
