Ok picked up new lifters and springs, also decided to replace the plastic timing set that looked about ready to let go! Ordered some cheap hedman headers, anyone know if I will have to go with a mini starter?

The original starter with the stud cable mount should be fine but close. You just have to use all 3 hands at the same time.

Other than running mufflers for cam break in why run them for racing?

My setup: I run a torker w/1” spacer & Holley HP750 DP, Comp 280H cam kit, stock 74 360 lower end, 291C heads (no port/clean up work and valves move around in guides), Hooker 1 7/8 header into 3.5 extensions, 4000 stall TH400 rev. man valve body, 4.56 gear AMC 20, M/T 28x9x15 slicks all in a gutted 70 Javelin best is high 12’s runs 13.0 to 13.5 I think with less stall and a 3.73 or 3.90 rear gear I would be in the mid 12’s all the time. So With what you have and spray you should be close to your goal.

BTW I know of some one running stock parts, 343 flat tops, 360 block rods & crank, 291 head, maybe a 3000 stall TH400, 370 gear, little more cam (flat tappet) than mine in a 69 Javelin running mid 11’s, with a 150 shot mid 10’s!

Just need to match the parts is all. Keep us posted on the out come.

Well this is not even close to a race car, going to be my fun street machine untill my American gets finished so thats the reason for the mufflers. My CJ 7 with a 401, 270 cam, roller rockers, torker, turbo 400 and 4:10 went 13.50 and I had a 65 Nova with a very mild 350 running 12.9 so I hope its gets there no problems. We do have very good air in seattle and cars run really hard here. Will defintely keep everyone posted on how it runs...or how it blows upLOL

Here's another thought. Instead of running the original 343 and BW trans and risk hurting them, you could find a cheap fullsize Jeep with a 360 and either a TH400 or a 727 in it. Just look for one that is in really crappy shape body-wise, but that drives fine. This will give you a good 360 to work with that you wouldn't care if it blows up and your friend could build the trans for you. You'd need to convert either trans to 2WD with the right tailshaft housing, but it's not a big deal. I'd look for one with a TH400 as the tailshaft housing would probably be easier to find and it would use any TH400 converter, so you could fine a used one cheap. If you did this, you could spray it whatever you wanted with no fear of killing the original motor, you'd have more cubes, lower compression, a little better heads, whatever converter you wanted to go with, etc. You could also sell the Jeep remains to recoup some of the cash.

Oh, and your Rebel probably weighs upwards of 3800-4000 pounds.

Anyway, just some thoughts. Good luck!

Must of read my mind! Talking to a guy right now that has a 360 in his jeep that has all new seals, gaskets, fuel pump, starter, eddy intake etc and he will sell it to me for 300 bucks and then he has a 401 that needs bottom end bearing and another 401 that had a cam go flat that he wants 300 a piece for. Already have a brand new built amc turbo 400 ready to go. So Im canning the 343 for now. Plan Z is in affect lol

Good score on the 360. And please tell me your going to buy both the 401s, too. That's a steal!
