I did all that stuff from the get-go. New points from NAPA, condensor, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. Carb is now rebuilt fully , new powervalve, accelerator pump on it. Dwell set a tick under 30 degrees, timing right at 5.

Getting ready to go drop the tank again, and truely clean it out. I so look forward to it (sarcasm).

I do look forward to driving the Rambler though!

Andy, where are you?  I'm in Denver and working on the tuning of my 327.  I'd like to share some of your obvious knowledge...slim

Denver, I'm in the S/W corner of the state hundreds of miles away from you.

After flushing the tank out, and letting it dry over night I put some fuel in the tank , use a priming pump to clear out the fuel lines until the fuel came out clean and took 'er on a drive this morning.

The 327 was running iffy , rough, mild back firing throug the carb at times. Disappointed , obviously.

Double-checked ignition, a-ok.

Time to check actual timing of the motor, set it to TDC per the harmonic balancer/dampener. #1 at TDC with plug removed. Check distributor, and it was fine.

Now onto the next thing, checking the firing order. 1,8.. wait #8 is wrong. Go down further and find #6 is switched with #8. Put them two back to where they should go and fire 'er up. Smooth running once again. Belching out carbon smoke.

Took 'er on a drive and she runs so smooth. The engine when warmed up and at idle you gotta question if it is even running. It is always the simple stuff so in doubt always check the obvious.

I replaced the cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs while I was waiting for the timing set to come in and it didn't cross my mind to double-check that. I been pulling hairs swapping coils, points, adjusting this, adjusting that, dialing in the carb to no avail and it was all due to misplaced plug wires on the distributor.

With that done, I can now go onto the next thing, waterpump, PS pump shaft seal.

The Motorola alternator voltage regulator failed today too, but I had a bosch external regulator I adapted to the motorola alternator and problem solved. I'm a Volvo mechanic by trade so I happen to have alot of bosch parts just laying around..

"It's always the little things".  So right.

I've found that, during a restoration, usually when something is head-scratching wrong, I've done something to screw it up.  Wires crossed, forgot the fuel-pump rod once, ignition is turned off, etc.
These cars were engineered and built to run and only "I" can prevent them from doing so...slim

If it jumped time it is possible to have some bent push rods.  Been there, done that.

I'd like to see the wiring diagram and the Bosch part number for getting that regulator working. The Motorola regulators are somewhat available, but not TODAY. Might be a good thing for someone to at least keep with the car in case one is needed on the road. It never hurts to replace something like that with a part that's more readily available. Most would just replace the Motorola alternator with a GM internal regulated model though.

The bosch voltage regulator is one these and isn't worth your time..

http://www.ipdusa.com/products/6782/100278-external-voltage-regulator

It is a three wire just like the motorola hence why it is easy to adapt. I just happen to have a spare here of that so I used it.

The 327 continues to run fine but the car is quickly falling apart. Brake booster split. Waterpump leaking bad. Torque tube troubles. Waterpump on the way. Another week of downtime. Brake booster who knows where to get one of those, I'd just like to get a rebuild kit and fix it myself. Torque tube, apparently requires a summon of some ancient god to get parts for . What am I doing with this car now?!

I think I may just dump it.
